Steph achieves place at University of Nottingham to study Criminology

August 2026

Steph achieved the A-Level grades that she needed to study Criminology at the University of Nottingham.

Steph joined King's Ely Senior in Year 9 from St Faith's School, Cambridge.

She studied History, English Literature, and Physical Education for her A-Levels. Steph also completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), titled: 'To what extent has the ‘Great’ gone from Great Britain - and how much of this should be attributed to politicians?'

We caught up with Steph after she received her A-Level results to find out more about her King's experience and what her next steps are...

Steph, what career path do you plan on pursuing?

I plan on going into Law/the Criminal Justice System.

What is the quality and style of teaching like at King’s?

The small class sizes in Sixth Form meant there was a greater focus on each of us as individuals, and our preferred learning styles were catered for. The constant feedback allowed me to continually improve throughout the two years. I got on very well with all my teachers, which helped me to feel comfortable and to achieve my best. Special shoutout to Mr Foster, who was amazingly supportive!

What else did you participate in during your time at King’s?

I participated fully in all of the sporting activities, including cross country, swimming, and the main team sports. I joined the 1st Hockey Team in Year 10 when on the trip to Holland, and I captained the 1st Team in my last year. I really enjoyed watching younger pupils join the team and contribute so meaningfully. Sport was a big part of my life at King's and I look forward to joining the Elite Triathlon Performance Squad at University.

Do you feel that you have been well supported pastorally at King’s?

Help was always on hand from my Housemistresses and the wider school community, if I needed it. I found the Learning Support Team's input, especially Mr Thomas’ support, really valuable in helping me prepare for exams.

What will you miss most about King’s and what did you enjoy most during your time here?

I will really miss seeing my close friends and siblings on the daily, especially hanging out in the boarding house with some of my boarding friends.

In what ways do you think King’s is unique or special compared to other schools?

King's is really inclusive and has a wide range of different personalities and cultures, which I feel makes it a unique and very special experience.

Describe King’s in three words!

Supportive, ambitious, vibrant.
