King's Ely BOARDING

Prep Boarding

Our staff work hard to create a home-from-home environment in which our students can feel settled and at ease.

Our family-orientated Boarding Houses provide a close bond between parents and the House teams.

"Our son loved all the extra-curricular activities on offer at King’s Ely, taking part in nearly every single one on offer. His teachers and friends were all very helpful, in fact he didn’t want to come back to China at all!"
Mr Yang and Mrs Yu

King’s Ely Prep is home to approximately 40 boy and girl boarders who enjoy two spectacular buildings as their term-time homes.

Each House is run by a Housemistress who lives in the building with her family and offers a close-knit and caring environment for our youngest boarders.

Some of our boarders live locally to Ely, some travel quite a distance from other regions to attend the school as boarders.  The King’s Ely Prep International programme sees children travelling from across the globe to enjoy all that the school has to offer.

We encourage any family who are considering boarding to visit and for the children to enjoy a taster of boarding ahead of admission.

Priory House

It is hard to deny the magic of the House. Our youngest boy and girl boarders tell us that coming to Priory House made them feel like they had arrived at Hogwarts!

Priory House dates back to the mid-12th century, and has been modernised to offer our young boarders comfortable and homely accommodation in the heart of the former monastery in Ely.

Priory is very much a home-from-home, thanks to the range of activities, special trips and treats organised by the Housemistress, her family, Matron, and the Tutors.

Walsingham House

Built in the early 14th C.and surrounded by early medieval buildings, Walsingham House was originally the home of Alan de Walsingham, a monk and architect attached to Ely Cathedral. Now centuries later what remains of his home forms part of Walsingham House, home to boys aged 8 to 13.

With a large garden and two large common rooms there is plenty of space for the boys to play and relax after a busy day at school and at the weekends.

Walsingham is a home from home with a resident Houseparent and Matron as well as two friendly dogs.  Fun activities are organised for the weekends such as Paintballing, Skating, Go Ape, and trips to the theatre to name but a few.
