Academic support and ESOL |
---|
International students from Years 3 to 8, for whom English is an additional language, have the opportunity to experience the vibrant environment of a UK independent school while developing their knowledge of English alongside immersion in a broad and exciting curriculum. King’s Ely Prep offers bespoke ESOL classes in classes of typically no more than five pupils. Fully supported by ESOL teaching professionals, the students get tailored support to develop and thrive in a caring and inclusive school community. The goal is to provide students with the tools in English to succeed and flourish in the core school curriculum. Students can attend up to eight dedicated English lessons each week. We place a strong emphasis on essential skills such as academic writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and grammar. We support the students for success across all subjects. The ESOL department runs trips and extracurricular activities such as visits to Cambridge, debating competitions and essay writing competitions. At the end of the academic year, students usually take a Trinity College London ESOL examination appropriate to their level of achievement. |
International Year 7 and 8 programme |
At King’s Ely Prep International, we offer Year 7 and 8 students a fully immersive programme with the opportunity to experience the vibrant environment of a UK boarding school while developing knowledge of English, making new friends, and embracing a wide range of exciting experiences. Studying alongside native speaker classmates whilst fully supported by English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL), teaching professionals give the students the support they need to develop and thrive in a caring and inclusive school community. In addition, a dedicated mentor looks out for each student’s pastoral needs and wellbeing throughout the year, helping them to feel settled from their very first day. Students will participate in several competitions throughout the year and will also share their language and culture through a variety of events. Students who follow the programme take part in the full range of opportunities available to all King’s Ely Prep students, with the potential to join the full mainstream curriculum at King’s Ely Senior in Year 9. |
