King's Ely PREP

Academic

Our creative approach to education ensures coverage of the curriculum through different learning styles, giving students the chance to learn in a way that suits them best.

At King’s Ely Prep we embrace and nurture individuality.

"Our children have thrived, both academically and personally. The range of subjects, sport and music taught is excellent, whilst individual strengths are given opportunity for extension and development."

PREP HANDBOOK

Our Years 3 and 4 pupils are taught in their own unique environment which acts as an extension of our Pre-Prep.  Pupils learn skills, knowledge and concepts through doing and experiencing and are encouraged to learn in a way that is meaningful to them.

Our Years 5 and 6 pupils continue their learning through the use of creative themes.  Both year groups are set for English and Mathematics, and specialist subject teachers deliver Science, Modern Foreign Languages, Music, Drama, Art, Design and Engineering and Games.  The added responsibility of moving from their classroom base for some of their lessons enables Years 5 and 6 to prepare for the independence they so look forward to in Year 7.

Our Year 7 pupils move up to the Key Stage Three curriculum and experience new subjects such as Latin and Classical Civilisation. Our Years 7 and 8 pupils study Mathematics, English, Science, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Latin, PHSE, two Modern Foreign Languages, Technology, Music and Sport.

YEAR 7/8 LAPTOP REQUIREMENTS

As the oldest pupils in the school, Year 8 students undertake positions of leadership by being School Ambassadors and a Buddy to a Year 3 child for the year.

Throughout King’s Ely Prep, there are many opportunities for educational visits and enrichment activities are regularly available.  Drama productions occur regularly, as do concerts for Choirs, Strings and Wind Band.

Learning Support

The integrated Learning Centre at King’s Ely Prep aims to apply the school’s philosophy of bringing out the potential of every pupil by encouraging high expectations and strong self-esteem.

The Learning Centre team of four full-time staff works closely with classroom teachers and subject specialists, providing both support and advice to ensure the majority of pupils’ needs will be met in the classroom through high-quality, differentiated teaching.

For a minority of our pupils who may have a higher level of need, specialist teachers provide additional, tailored support, delivered through short-term individual and small group work.
