Sean achieved the A-Level grades that he needed to study Physics at the University of Manchester.

Sean joined King's Ely Sixth Form in Year 12 from a secondary school in Beijing, which is where he is from.

Sean studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Economics for his A-Levels.

We caught up with Sean after he received his A-Level results to find out more about his King's experience and what his next steps are...

Sean, what career path do you plan on pursuing?

I am not too sure yet!

What is the quality and style of teaching like at King’s?

My teachers were all highly experienced and logical. As someone who loves asking questions whenever I encounter something that I do not understand, I truly appreciated their approach. Teachers like Dr Skeels, Ms Bezzina, Mrs Celiker, Mr Kittoe, Mr Lucas, and Mr Mendis always treated my questions with patience and genuine thought, engaging in deep discussions with me. This allowed me to develop a much deeper understanding of my subjects beyond what was in textbooks, which I feel was also key to the strong A-Level results I achieved.

What else did you participate in during your time at King’s?

I participated in a wide range of sports and outdoor activities, including basketball, football, and Ely Scheme. I played numerous matches with our school basketball team. Additionally, I completed the Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition, took part in the 50km 'Dawn to Dusk' challenge twice, and went on the Camino Trail trip to Spain with the school.

Do you feel that you have been well supported pastorally at King’s?

I received incredible support from my subject teachers. Mr Kittoe spent many sessions after school helping me prepare for my interviews and personal statement, while Mr Mendis supported me by discussing my essays and questions. Teachers truly cared. A big shout-out to Mr Tim Wyndham-Smith, who taught me how to get along with people from different cultural backgrounds. He even surprised me with a Chinese New Year gift during our Camino Walk in Spain, making it one of my most memorable Chinese New Year experiences ever. Thank you, Mr Wyndham-Smith!

What will you miss most about King’s and what did you enjoy most during your time here?

My basketball team and all of the different outdoor learning and experiences through the Ely Scheme.

In what ways do you think King’s is unique or special compared to other schools?

The Sports Department is what sets King’s apart - you can do virtually any sport you enjoy. When our basketball team struggled in my first year, we asked Mr Meddle if we could get additional coaching support. The following year, he hired our legendary coach, Ms Markham, who took our team to a whole new level!
