Twenty-one Year 8 students, Mrs Helen Melville, Mr Andrew Marshall, and Mrs Lorraine Oldham spent their Bank Holiday Weekend just gone exploring Iceland's capital, Reykjavík, the stunning Thingvellir National Park, and so much more!
Mrs Melville, who led the trip, said: "It is quite tricky to find enough adjectives to describe the trip! 'Epic', 'awesome', 'amazing', and 'fantastic' are just some that have been used by pupils. We certainly did have a wonderful trip, helped by the very un-Icelandic dry and sunny weather, and by the super young people who embraced every location and opportunity with excitement and enthusiasm, and who were a real credit to themselves and the school."
The intrepid group's jam-packed itinerary also included visiting a Lava Show in Reykjavík, exploring the valley of the River Varma (including a 1-kilometre long 'mega zipline' across it!), checking out the Gullfoss Waterfall, Strokkur; Iceland’s most active geyser, the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Glújfrabúi Waterfall, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, and Skógafoss Waterfall.
Mrs Melville said: "A quick poll with the pupils suggested that they would have preferred to stay in Iceland than return to school in time for Maths on Tuesday morning, but we decided we might all get into a lot of trouble with both Mr Kibler and Mr Hobbs if we did that, so we reluctantly got on the flight home!
"I would like to thank Mr Marshall and Mrs Oldham for being excellent travel companions and for helping to ensure that the trip ran so brilliantly. Thank you to all parents for their support too. For those with children coming on next year's trip, this is an idea of the amazing things that they will get to experience!"
