King's Ely welcomes students from Sancton Wood School and Ely College to participate in MUN Conference

February 2026

'Free speech online' was the topic of our most recent Model United Nations (MUN) Conference.

Mrs Melanie Franklin, who is Head of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at King's, organises the conferences as part of our award-winning co-curricular, enrichment, and outreach programmes.

Students from Sancton Wood School and Ely College joined a group of our Senior pupils for the event in the Board Room on February 10th.

MUN is an educational simulation of the United Nations to teach students about diplomacy, international relations, and global issues. During an MUN Conference, pupils assume the roles of representatives of countries, organisations, or individuals to collaborate and address global challenges.

We hold numerous MUN Conferences throughout the year, and find that they are a fantastic way to help develop pupils' oracy skills, confidence, and critical thinking!

Mrs Franklin said: "MUN is a brilliant opportunity for students to enhance their debating, research, and critical thinking skills. Many of the students who participate are from overseas, and it is great to see them taking their English to the next level. The students deserve to be proud of themselves, as they all spoke eloquently and with passion. There were over 20 countries represented, including countries as diverse as North Korea, Rwanda, Brazil, and Australia."

Kudos to every single student for their involvement, and thank you to Mrs Franklin for organising these brilliant opportunities!
